Nanda Devi East, standing at 7,434 meters , is the elegant eastern summit of the revered Nanda Devi massif in Uttarakhand. Often regarded as the “twin peak” of Nanda Devi, it holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, symbolizing the divine presence of Goddess Nanda. The mountain rises dramatically above the Johar Valley, forming a striking counterpart to the main peak.
Together, Nanda Devi and Nanda Devi East help shape the magnificent Nanda Devi Sanctuary —a natural amphitheater of high Himalayan walls, glaciers, and untouched alpine ecosystems. This remote and rugged region is among the most pristine in the Himalayas, protected for both its ecological sensitivity and cultural heritage.
The surrounding Nanda Devi National Park , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, shelters rare flora, wildlife, and fragile high-altitude landscapes. Although the inner sanctuary remains restricted due to conservation concerns, the allure of Nanda Devi East endures.
